Chef Justin Raha's culinary journey began humbly, as a 14-year-old apprentice in a baker's shop. His journey through various roles in the industry laid the foundation for his remarkable career, marked by steadfast determination and unwavering commitment.
Formal education became the cornerstone of his ascent, as he diligently pursued his degrees in Baking & Pastry and Culinary Arts at Baker College in 2007. It was then that he introduced Grand Finale Desserts and Pastries to the charming town of Grand Haven, Michigan.
Initially, Grand Finale Desserts focused on crafting wedding cakes and artisanal chocolates. Chef Justin's vision was simple but profound: to bring exceptional, high-quality products to the market, using only the finest ingredients, and sourcing locally. He earned acclaim for his exquisite cakes, wedding cakes, confections, and chocolates.
Simultaneously, his passion for culinary arts led him to embrace the role of an educator. In 2009, he found himself teaching at the Culinary Institute of Michigan in Muskegon, molding the future generation of culinary talents while nurturing his own growing business.
The autumn of 2016 marked a significant turning point. Chef Justin expanded his operation by purchasing the building housing his business, adding an inviting storefront in Downtown Grand Haven, MI. This expansion allowed him to offer an even wider selection of premium goods, a testament to his steadfast commitment to quality. His dedication soon blossomed into a thriving wholesale business, spreading his creations throughout West Michigan.
Ever the humble and persistent soul, Chef Justin continued his pursuit of excellence. He undertook further studies and earned his bachelor's degree in food and beverage management, complemented by his certification as an ACF Certified Executive Pastry Chef. These achievements reflected his unwavering commitment to mastering his craft.
In 2019, another opportunity for growth presented itself. He opened a second location in Spring Lake, Michigan, known as Bistro chez Grand Finale. This full-service Bistro, café, and coffeehouse specialized in authentic French cuisine, offering a vast array of coffee, tea, and espresso drinks, alongside mouthwatering croissants, tempting pastries, and savory quiches. The menu expanded to include a sumptuous breakfast and lunch selection. In 2022, they acquired a liquor license, transforming the establishment into a vibrant evening destination, complete with a full bar, a range of classic cocktails, and an impressive wine list featuring over 90 carefully selected options.
He attributes his success to the enduring support of the community and the unwavering commitment of his exceptional team, who have stood by his side, helping turn his dreams into a reality.
